The Black Masking Indian tradition is a powerful expression of Black history, resistance, and cultural continuity in New Orleans. For over 145 years, passed down through generations, the culture remains a defiant act of self-representation, challenging the white gaze while celebrating Black artistry and resilience. Through my photography, I seek to highlight the beauty, strength, and significance of the tradition.
